On Leaving

There is little consolation
In knowing that where you were
You are no longer.

There is some solace though
In the remembrance
Of who you were,
Who you still are.

Your wit,
Funny responses
That so often,
Had nothing to do
With what you were
…responding to.
And glory be,
Those head-scratching epistles
that were so far over my head,
I sometimes thought
I would go bald
…for sure.

Your amazing talents,
Fantastic artwork
That made life for us folks
And for those far needier than we,
Just that more special.

Caring, commitment,
Warm heart, gentle ways
And goodness,
All portrayed
In everything you did.

Your being will be sustained
By grateful memories
That will forever live
Within the hearts and minds
Of so many.

There is little consolation
In knowing that where you were
You are no longer.

Yet! There is a certain joy,
For you are
And always will be
…you.
And I love that I had the honor
of knowing you, somewhat,
For many a long year.

Paint the walls of Heaven,
you will be so welcomed there.
